Institutions and sources

The leading institutions of Portuguese heritage, for those who want to go to the official sources and the primary collections.

This project does not work in a vacuum: it relies on the work of the institutions that conserve, study and disseminate Portuguese heritage. This page brings them together, as an acknowledgement and as a guide for those who want to go to the sources.

Oversight and classification

  • Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage (DGPC) — the State body responsible for the classification and safeguarding of heritage; it maintains the database of classified assets.
  • National UNESCO Commission — it oversees the nominations and the management of the Portuguese assets inscribed on the World Heritage List.

Museums and collections

  • National Museums — of Ancient Art, of the Azulejo, of Archaeology, among others, with collections and catalogues increasingly accessible online.
  • Côa Museum and the archaeological parks — primary sources for archaeology and rock art.

Research

  • The university research centres in art history, architecture, urbanism and archaeology, whose output sustains the annotated bibliography in Publications.

Collaborate

Patrimónios is open to collaboration with institutions and researchers — in the review of content, in the provision of duly licensed images and in dissemination. Contact details will be made available as the project consolidates.
